A consumer alert for Dominion Virginia Power customers. This month's bill offers automatic enrollment into a budget billing program. If you're not careful, you could end up paying the wrong amount for your electric bill.
The bill you would normally get in the mail had one amount in the coupon section. You pay that amount, then the electric bill has been paid.
Starting this month, Dominion is offering two different payment options.
If you pay the amount on the right-side of the bill -- you're automatically enrolled in Dominion's budget billing program. This program spreads the cost of power across the year, which means your bill is exactly the same every month.
"This is a way to help them prior to the peak summer season, and we are encouraging our customers to take advantage of it," says David Green, Dominion senior vice president of Customer Service.
That budget number is pretty enticing right now. It's the peak summer season, and in most cases, the amount you would pay now -- is less.
But keep in mind, you would pay less now because you're paying more at other parts of the year. And again, it's a flat rate. The price you're paying now is the price you'll pay for the next 12 months.
Now, if you think you paid the budget plan amount, but you don't want to be in the budget plan -- give Dominion a call and explain your situation.
You'll be asked to pay the difference between the budget plan and your regular bill.
