Man pleads guilty in machete attack on Richmond woman

From NBC12 News

A man has pleaded guilty in a machete attack on a woman in Richmond that nearly severed her arm.

Davette Hayes also suffered deep cuts to her face when she was attacked on New Year's Eve while on her way to work at Richmond Community Hospital.

Paul Bratton pleaded guilty Monday in Richmond Circuit Court to one count of aggravated malicious wounding, one count of attempted murder and two counts of stabbing. He now faces a possible life sentence.

Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney Tracy Thorne-Begland says Bratton had been waiting for Hayes on the night of the attack, followed her into work and attacked her with a machete.

Bratton is scheduled to be sentenced on September 10th.
