Overnight storms may have sparked Henrico fires

From NBC12 News

Some area residents will be cleaning up as the severe weather continues to move through the morning.

Damage is being reported in parts of Chesterfield and Henrico, where there were small trees down, and small limbs and branches scattered throughout neighborhoods.

In Henrico, two fires are being blamed on lightning.

The first was in a home in the 12000 block of Blairmont Court in the Shortpump area.

Mickey Cash, a resident of the Bay Cove Townhomes, was home at the time and says he has no doubt that lightning sparked the fire.

The blaze started in the attic and caused significant damage to at least three units, and minor damage to a fourth.

Henrico Fire Marshall says its too soon estimate the costs of the damage and says there is still no official cause of the fire.

There are also still a few power outages around the area, but the numbers are dropping.

Outages were in the hundreds earlier this morning, but Dominion Virginia Power now reports only 37 customers are without power.
