RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Gov. Ralph Northam said Monday that "Virginians deserve clarity" when it comes to the state House of Delegates districts.

Northam signed a proclamation calling the General Assembly members into a special session on Aug. 30 to redraw the districts.

Earlier this summer, a federal court found that 11 Virginia legislative districts were unconstitutionally gerrymandered and ordered lawmakers to redraw the electoral map by the end of October.

"It is in the public interest for the General Assembly to finalize constitutional maps as soon as possible," Northam said. "...I am calling a special session so we can focus our collective attention on doing what's right: working together to draw lines that represent Virginians fairly."
