(WWBT) -

On Sunday, many people will take the time to remember the Virginia State Police officers who gave their lives providing security on the day of the deadly Charlottesville rally.

Trooper Pilot Berke Bates and Virginia State Police Pilot Lt. Jay Cullen were both killed, when their Virginia State Police helicopter crashed into a wooded area outside the city last year.

Multiple events are planned to mark the 2017 “Unite the Right” rally which resulted in the deaths of Cullen and Bates as well as 32-year-old Heather Heyer in both Charlottesville and Washington DC.
