Whether it's a rainy day or just a busy day for mom and dad, there are days you just have to stay home in the summer. And if your kids are already driving you crazy, here are tips to keep them busy!
When it comes to summer fun, remember you don't have to spend a lot of money. You don't even have to leave the house to have a good time.
"Some of my favorite memories growing up was having the sprinkler on in the yard,” said Carissa Garabedian with Richmond Macaroni Kid, a parenting blog in RVA. “Getting a slip n' slide and just playing outside in my bathing suit with my friends."
Make popsicles, set up a lemonade stand, make some homemade cookies, even hopscotch.
"And on rainy days, putting blankets over couches and chairs and creating tents and forts or you know, the classic hide-and-seek…there's so many fun things to do!" said Garabedian.
She also suggested getting back in the kitchen with your kids. Make homemade pizza! Talk about measuring and temperature - it's all math, and they won't even know they're learning.
"I think it's important for the kids with summer to find some things that allow their brains to kick in a little bit without a device," said Garabedian.
If parents are running out of ideas, maybe you should turn to technology.
“Just explore 'indoor fun' on a cloudy day with kids,” said Garabedian. “You'll get so many new ideas as well."
When all else fails, a family board game can bring home some good old-fashioned fun.
"I hear it all the time from moms,” said Garabedian. “It just went like that! So, make the memories and hold on to them and everything you do. You can have a memory that you'll hold and find that special moment in."
