(WWBT) - If you're thinking about putting your home up for sell, there are some things to keep in mind to make it more attractive to buyers.

We all have things in our home that make it ours that have meaning to just us. But when selling a home, it's best to take a critical look at what is in your house and how it could look to outsiders.

If you have a lot of pictures on the wall, it could have sentimental value to you because it's your family. But to a buyer, it may just be clutter.

You want your home to appear as minimal and clean as possible. You want the buyer to picture themselves living there.

Any collections you may have could again have personal meaning to you, but just be junk to whomever is looking to purchase your home.

"The best idea would be to have somebody walk through your house with you," Cherry Dale, financial education director with Virginia Credit Union, said. "Whether it's your Realtor or someone you trust that can look at your home objectively and be honest with you and tell you need to get rid of this area."

Virginia Credit Union will host a free seminar for home sellers May 22 from 6 to 7 p.m. at its office in Boulders Office Park. You can register online at vacu.org.
