LA CROSSE, WI (WEAU/NBC) - A hatched baby statue is causing a frenzy in Wisconsin. The statue was imported from Friedberg, Germany.

It's sitting in front of the city hall in La Crosse, standing nine feet tall. The piece is a part of a series created by artist Wolfgang Auer.

Now, some are calling the sculpture interesting, while others say it's a bit creepy.

"I think modern art says something about the modern condition and allows people to come together to talk about different ideas and ways that humans can kind of come together and comment about what they think the art is. Whether they think it is any good, whether they think it's bad, I think conversation is one of the most important things that modern art can do," said La Crosse Arts Board Chair Doug Weidenbach to NBC affiliate WEAU.

There is no word on how long the statue will remain before heading back overseas.
