A Caroline County man won $1 million after scratching his 20X the Money ticket from the Virginia Lottery.

William Evans bought his ticket at the Food Lion on Jefferson Davis Highway in Ruther Glen while on his lunch break. He thought he won $100,000, but he put on his glasses and discovered he won a lot more than that.

"Wait a minute! This is a million!" he said.

He had a difficult time convincing his wife how much he had won.

"She didn't believe it," he said. "She thought I was pulling her leg."

Evans will have the option to take the full $1 million over 30 years or a one-time cash payout of $657,030.

The 20X the Money Scratcher features prizes ranging from $10 to $1 million, and the chances of winning the top prize are 1 in 1,162,800. The chances of winning any prize in the game are 1 in 3.52.
