Fortune Magazine released a list of the Top 100 Great Places To Work in the U.S.

Salesforce took the top spot and AT&T took the last spot. Most of the businesses that made the list have a presence in the Richmond-area.

Grocery retailer Wegmans, which has two Richmond-area stores, took the second spot on the Fortune list.

McLean-based Capital One ranks 17th, the same place as last year.

CarMax, a Goochland County-based automotive retailer, came in at 34.

Other businesses with a Richmond-area presence include REI, Publix Super Markets, Comcast, T-Mobile, Nordstrom, FedEx, among others.

Fortune Magazine surveyed 315,000 employees to measure companies on the following characteristics: executive team effectiveness, innovation, people-focused programs, and "Great Place to Work For All."

"In a Great Place to Work For All, employees report high levels of trust, credible and respectful leadership, pride in the work, and camaraderie. We also look to see that employees consistently experience this great workplace, regardless of who they are or what they do. Each company is scored on our analysis of anonymous employee responses to more than 50 survey questions on our Trust Index Survey, together with our evaluation of company programs and practices as measured through our Culture Audit assessment," Fortune Magazine said.

To make the list, companies needed to have at least 1,000 employees and receive enough survey responses a 95 percent confidence level with no more than a 5 percent margin of error.
