(WWBT) - If you do decide to give candy for Valentine's Day, you might want to take a second look a chocolate.
It's not only a romantic gift - it also has health benefits.
Chocolate has nutrients that can protect your heart and increase blood flow to your heart. One study says as little as a quarter of an ounce of dark chocolate a day can be beneficial to your heart. It is also a good antioxidant and helps with inflammation.
However, not all chocolate is created equal.
"Dark chocolate can be a source of vitamins and minerals, but it is also going to be a good source of added sugar," said Elyse Sartor, a clinical outpatient dietitian.
Another study says chocolate can help improve a person's mood. Moderation is key.
