A FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY has been issued for Wednesday as we expect snow to move into the area Tuesday night/Wednesday AM
Most likely result for Richmond: 2-3" of snow with higher amounts up to 4-5" possible south and southwest of RIC.
Here's our updated snowfall map as of Tuesday 4:26am
We expect snow to begin falling in RVA around 3-4am. It could start sooner North and West of Richmond.
Higher amounts of 2-3" of snow have been shifted to include the Richmond metro, south and southwest of RIC. Isolated amounts of 4-5" can't be ruled out in the purple shaded area. 1-2" (in the white shade) likely east of RIC and to the northwest with lesser amounts expected for far northern VA and the Northern Neck.
The bottom line? We are likely to get snow over the area and it will likely be enough to cause travel trouble all day Wednesday. Be prepared to cancel or alter your plans if necessary. If you have school age children, plan now for school closings. And with an overnight low in the teens Wednesday night (after the snow) roads will likely still be snow-covered on Thursday morning.
Our morning team will be on early Wednesday at 4 a.m., tracking the snow and its impact on your morning routine.
We'll be monitoring this system closely and will continue to update you over the next 48 hours. Stay tuned!
