RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A huge crowd turnout in Richmond on Saturday to support the families of two Virginia State Police officers killed in the line of duty.
Lieutenant Jay Cullen and Trooper Pilot Burke Bates were killed when their helicopter crashed outside of Charlottesville during the Unite the Right rally in August.
Months later, the community is still wrapping its arms around the families and lifting them up.
"We love them. We support them, and we will not forget the sacrifice Jay and Burke made for us," said Mac Adams, of Metro Richmond Police Emerald Society.
"His wife and family used to come in on a regular basis, so it's a personal thing rather than just an ordinary guy walking through the door," said Tom Goulding, of Rosie Connolly's Pub and Restaurant.
The event was held at Rosie Connolly's in Shockoe Bottom and was organized by Metro Richmond Police Emerald Society.
