CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - Chesterfield police have arrested two people in connection with a larceny from a car that happened early Monday morning.
Police responded to the area of Sarata Lane and Solaris Drive for a report that two unknown suspects were trying to enter a vehicle in the 10600 block of Sarata Lane. According to police, a responding officer saw two people matching the suspects' description near the intersection of Solaris Drive and Sunne Court. One of these people approached the officer, the other walked in the other direction.
The officer began speaking with the person who approached him, and that person fled on foot. The other person also fled on foot. The officer pursued the suspects, but lost sight of them.
As officers responded to search for these suspects, another officer encountered a person walking down Alberta Road from the area where the attempted larceny from auto had occurred. This suspect was found to be in possession of property stolen from vehicles in the area.
The investigation indicates that this suspect, Christopher M. Van Meter, 19, of the 5500 block of Alberta Road, and another suspect, Dominic M. Smith, 18, of the 5000 Alberta Road, entered and took property from vehicles on Sunne Court.
Van Meter was arrested and charged with credit card theft, conspiracy to commit larceny, entering or setting in motion a vehicle and underage possession of alcohol. Smith was arrested and charged with grand larceny, conspiracy to commit larceny and entering or setting in motion a vehicle.
Meanwhile, officers located one of the original suspects in a vehicle that was attempting to leave the area. Through investigation, police identified this suspect and another suspect and determined that they had entered vehicles in the area. Charges against these suspects are pending and the investigation is ongoing.
