RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - NASCAR fans at Richmond International Raceway will now have just two more chances to see the sport's most popular driver.
After missing much of last season following a concussion, Dale Earnhardt Jr. announced his retirement on Tuesday morning, effective at the end of the 2017 season.
Fans will be able to see Earnhardt race at RIR this weekend and then again in early September.
Earnhardt won at Richmond three times in the Cup series, most recently in May 2006. He's finished in the top 10 at RIR 13 times.
"Wishing you nothing but the absolute best, Dale Earnhardt Jr.," posted on Facebook on Tuesday.
NBC12's Matt Estreich will be live at Richmond International Raceway at 5 p.m. with updates and reactions.
