PETERSBURG, VA (WWBT) -

NBC12 was honored by the American Red Cross with their Good Neighbor Award on Thursday night at a ceremony held at the Union Train Station in Petersburg.

"The purpose of tonight’s event was to recognize the volunteers that support the American Red Cross. (We) are probably 90 percent volunteer, 10 percent staff, and without them, we don't deliver the mission in our communities. We’re recognizing NBC12 for their support in our communities. They promote our initiatives and help provide information out to the community on what we’re doing. They have been great partners with us." said James Hatcher, CEO, Red Cross Virginia Region.

The Red Cross is one of the first organizations NBC12 partners with when help is needed in Virginia or anywhere in the world. They often staff NBC12's Call 12 Center, making it possible for viewers to donate and help their neighbors in need.

"It was humbling to meet and hear the stories of so many wonderful volunteers and people who truly care about our community. It was an honor to accept on the behalf of NBC12," said NBC12 Marketing Director Brandon Seier.
