Man killed after gunman opens fire on N.C. campus

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WWBT/WRAL) -

Officials at North Carolina A&T State University say a gunman opened fire on campus, which left one man dead.

A visitor to the school notified campus police that she was approached by a man with a handgun, Greensboro police told NBC affiliate WRAL. She and the man fought, and a shot was fired.

The woman was not shot, and the man ran from the scene.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found one man suffering from a gunshot wound near a campus building. He was transported to the hospital where he later died. However, it is unclear whether if the man was killed by the bullet that came from the struggle between the woman and armed man.

In a tweet on Twitter, school officials described the suspect as a black male wearing all black. It is unknown where he could be at this time.

All students have been advised to stay indoors.

The shooting is now under investigation.
