Church Hill post office suddenly closes

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Community members are speaking out about a post office that was suddenly closed in Richmond's East End. The comments are ranging from "good riddance" to "this is a huge inconvenience."

There have been talks for years about the 25th Street United States Post Office in Church Hill closing, and now it's official, at least for the time being.

According to a note in front of the post office, they had to close their doors due to safety issues. The note also says that mail service should not be impacted.

For those who use a P.O. Box, mail will be at a mobile unit, which is right outside of the now closed post office.

Congressman Donald McEachin issued a response to the post office closure:

For over 40 years the East End post office has served as a critical juncture for the economic and postal needs of the local community. I have serious concerns with how this closure will negatively impact my constituents, in particular, the elderly and less fortunate. In light of these concerns, I am asking that you restore access to a permanent postal location in the immediate area as quickly as safely possible.
