Virginia Union women come up short in national title game despite tough effort

COLUMBUS, OH (WWBT) -

The Virginia Union Women's basketball team came up short in their bid for their NCAA national championship in more than 30 years.

Coach AnnMarie Gilbert and her resilient Panthers lost to Ashland University on Friday night 93 to 77 in Columbus, Ohio.

The 6th-seeded Panthers made the Championship game on Wednesday defeating California Baptist 86-81, but the #1 seeded Eagles were just too much to handle.

Marc Davis will have a recap coming up on NBC12 News at 11.
