CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) -

A driver was taken to the hospital after Chesterfield police say he ran off the road and hit a house.

This happened in the 3500 block of West Hundred Road just before 11 a.m.

When police arrived on the scene, they found the man unconscious but breathing on his own. Officers say the crash happened due to a medical emergency the driver experienced, causing him to jump the sidewalk and hit the house.

Officers say the driver is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

Sherry Farrow, who has been living there for nearly a decade, was at church when she heard the news.

The county building inspector was on the scene assessing the damage.

She was also told they believe it is structurally sound as long as they do not go into the den where the damage is. However, needless to say, Farrow and her daughter will be finding somewhere else to stay in the meantime.

Farrow found out about the damage from a friend of hers.

"She said, 'I hate to tell you this, but someone went through your house.' I said, 'What do you mean?' She said, 'Someone went through your house with a car, on the carport side,'" Farrow said.
