RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Fire crews in Richmond are investigating a suspicious car fire that happened on the city's northside.

When the fire department responded to a house on Highland View Avenue around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, they found a car on fire.

Captain Brandon with the fire department said it was hard to fight the fire because the car was covered in some sort of flammable liquid.

They are calling it a suspicious fire for that reason and because there are reports of a person, wearing all black who threw some type of liquid on the car prior to the fire. However, the fire department has not confirmed this.

The fire was put out within an hour.

Fire officials say the homeowners were surprised by the fire.

A fire investigator is expected to take a closer look at this car fire.

No one was hurt, but the car and the side of the home did receive damage from the fire.
