CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) -

The murder re-trial for a man involved in a deadly police chase in 2013 was delayed until January on Wednesday morning.

Karon Porter is accused of hitting multiple cars while running from police and killing 73-year-old George Van Orden, who was inside one of those vehicles.

Porter is accused of then attempting to carjack a vehicle with a child inside.

Court records show that Porter had previously assaulted an officer and had a suspended license.

In a letter to a judge in 2010, Porter apologized and asked for a second chance to be with his daughter.

Porter was previously on trial on the murder charge earlier this year, but the trial ended in a hung jury.
