Over the last week, I have had the pleasure of attending three extraordinary events that celebrated Unsung Heroes, and I would like to highlight the events and the organizations that championed them.
The first is the 27th Annual Valor Awards, hosted by the Richmond Retail Merchants Association. This year, 25 first responders were honored from Richmond, Chesterfield, Hanover and Virginia Commonwealth University Police. A sold-out crowd of 2500 saluted these men and women who place themselves in harm’s way every day, and they just consider this to be part of the job.
The second event was the 2016 Manny Awards. The Manny Awards Dinner is an annual event hosted by My Brother’s Keeper of Greater Richmond. 15 men who have given back to their communities unselfishly were honored for simply being great men. I think their website says it best: "They are not the men who seek to be celebrated or praised, but do it because it's the right thing to do!"
And last, but certainly not least, was the annual BRAVO! Awards. The BRAVO! Awards is a gala hosted by the Chesterfield Education Foundation. This event recognizes graduates of Chesterfield County Public Schools who have made outstanding contributions to his or her profession and community; people who are recognized by their peers as people who have made a difference.
