RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Ten people are in custody after a joint operation with local and Federal authorities cracking down on human trafficking and prostitution.

It's all part of "Operation Cross Country X," a nationwide effort by 55 FBI field offices, 74 FBI-led Child Exploitation Task Forces and 400+ law enforcement agencies throughout the country.

Ten people in Central Virginia were arrested for keeping a bawdy place: three in Henrico, four in Richmond and three in Chesterfield.

Five people were arrested in Winchester, VA. A person wanted for two felony probation violations, a child support warrant, and for failure to register as a sex offender was also located.

In all, 82 juveniles were rescued in the U.S. from the operation and 239 pimps and other individuals were arrested. The FBI says the youngest victim was 13 years old, and two of the victims, ages 16 and 17, said their mother was their pimp.

"This is a depressing day in law enforcement," said FBI Director James Comey, "because this is the world we live in and the work we have to do."

Comey also said he is proud of the law enforcement "who spend every day worrying about how to rescue these children. They are true heroes."
