When a California police officer pulled up next to a truck driving in the carpool lane this week, he was pretty surprised to find a mannequin riding shotgun.

According to a report from NBC San Diego, Brea Police wrote on their Facebook page that a motorcycle officer stopped the truck around 5 p.m. Wednesday while it was traveling along the 57 Freeway in heavy traffic.

NBC7 said when the truck "suddenly veered out of the carpool" or HOV lane and came close to the police officer, the officer rode up to the driver's open window to advise him to drive more carefully while changing lanes, according to Brea police.

"He was surprised to see that the passenger in the vehicle was actually a mannequin," Brea police wrote in the post, adding that it was a first for their department.

From the picture, which the department shared on their Twitter page, the mannequin seemed like it was missing some appendages, and it was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.

“Nice try,” the department said in their tweet Thursday.
