COLONIAL HEIGHTS, VA (WWBT) - A Colonial Heights man is in Riverside Regional Jail on a $3,000 secured bond after his 2-year-old son was found out wandering in the street while he was asleep inside their home.
Colonial Heights Police say the child is now in the care of CPS and no one else was home at the time. Other family members have since come to the home in the 400 block of Dupuy Avenue.
Police say people driving down Dupuy saw the 2-year-old in the road and called them. After officers went door-to-door in the neighborhood, they learned the home address of the child and obtained a warrant for the home.
Officers found the father, Joseph Daniel Johnson Sr., sleeping and then arrested him for felony child neglect and took him to jail.
Johnson told police he had "been working a long stretch of continuous days and was tired." Police say the mother was at work at the time.
