Proud mom shares video of boy with cerebral palsy trying to stand for national anthem

A powerful and touching story of patriotism has captured the heart of thousands as the mother of a nine-year-old boy shared a video of her young son as he tried as hard as he could to stand for the national anthem.

In a report shared by WDNT, Rebecca Wilson told WTVT that while her son was watching a recorded baseball game on TV.

When the national anthem started to play, Wilson said her son made every effort to stand up.

“He always takes off his hat,” Rebecca Wilson told WTVT, “but until yesterday I never really saw him try to stand. He just knew that is what we do to show respect to our country and everyone who fights so hard for us. He is truly just an amazing kid just doing what he loves,” she said.

Cerebral palsy is a permanent movement disorder that appears in early childhood and can include symptoms like weak and stiff muscles, tremors and problems seeing, hearing, speaking and swallowing.

The mother captioned her video that has been seen over 16,000 times, “Even my 9 year old with CP (who can’t walk) knows you’re supposed to stand up during the national anthem…He loves it!”
