Tennessee comes alive in second quarter to rout Hokies at Bristol

Tennessee overcame a slow start with a prolific second quarter to beat Virginia Tech 45-24 Saturday night at the 'Battle at Bristol.'

The game was the most-attended college football game in history with 156,990 fans in attendance.

Virginia Tech opened the scoring with a touchdown catch by Hanover alum Sam Rogers and built a 14-0 lead after the first quarter.

But Tennessee responded with three touchdowns and a field goal in the second quarter.  The Volunteers outscored Tech 24-0 in the second en route to a 24-14 halftime lead.

Tennessee scored three more touchdowns in the second half while the Hokies could only muster a field goal in the third quarter and a garbage time touchdown late in the fourth quarter.
