Prostate cancer is one of the more common types of cancer in men affecting 1-in-7. It begins in the tissues of the prostate gland, which is responsible for the production of semen. It's located just below the bladder and in front of the rectum.
Every case of prostate cancer is different, but it's treatable if caught early. And as Dr. Charles Seabury with Retreat Doctors' Hospital explains, it’s important to be screened.
"You're talking about gentlemen between the ages of 50 and 70 and you’re talking about once a year getting a PSA blood test and a rectal exam. It's not that uncomfortable generally. But very necessary. Very necessary. We consider it part of the exam."
Save this date: September 29th, 2016. Retreat Doctors' Hospital is offering free prostate cancer screening and everyone who attends can talk with a doctor about prostate cancer and undergo screening as well.
