Altercation leaves man dead after shooting in Whitcomb Court

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Richmond Police are investigating a deadly shooting in the city's Whitcomb Court community that claimed the life of a man and left a woman wounded.

Officers were called to the 2300 block of Bethel Street just before midnight Friday for reports of shots fired and persons shot. Once on scene, Richmond Police discovered two victims suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Both victims were rushed to an area hospital where the male victim later succumbed to his injuries. The female victim is still being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators say there was a large group of people present at the Whitcomb Court scene and officers learned there was a party going on in the area at the time of the shooting.

"An altercation took place between some of the people present then gunshots sounded and struck the victims," said Lt. Jason Hudson with the Major Crimes Division. "We're asking the community to help us identify anyone who may have been involved in this incident."

Anyone with information that can help investigators is asked to call Richmond Crime Stoppers at 780-1000. Citizens can also text Crime Stoppers at 274637, using the key word "ITip" followed by your tip. All Crime Stoppers methods are anonymous.
