Police investigating first homicide of the year in Hopewell


Hopewell Police are now investigating the city's first homicide of the year.

Police responded around 6:03 a.m. Friday to the intersection of Elm Street and Westover Avenue for reports of a man lying in a field near the intersection. They say when officers arrived they found an unidentified black male victim who was deceased from gunshot wounds.

The unidentified victim has a tattoo “successful” with a dollar sign inside a money bag on his right forearm. He was wearing camo shorts, blue t- shirt with a black eight ball and white letters, a Miami Dolphins hat and New England Patriots lanyard. The remains are now at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The Hopewell Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit continues to investigate this matter. The department is requesting that any person(s) who may know this victim or witnessed the shooting to contact the Hopewell Police Department at (804) 541-2284.
