WATCH LIVE: Richmond's Eichfeld aims to go from James River to Olympic canoe gold

Highlights of Day 5 from Rio

RIO DE JANEIRO (WWBT) - Casey Eichfeld's love of canoeing began on the James River as a child in Richmond, now he's hoping it will lead him to gold in Rio.

Eichfeld finished in seventh-place in the men's canoe single slalom final on Tuesday, but now will have another shot at a medal in the men's canoe double. He and Devin McEwan finished in tenth in the preliminaries to make the semifinal at 11:30 a.m. ET. Highlights will be on NBC12 between 2:30 and 5 p.m.

Simone Biles could become the fourth consecutive American woman to win the all-around Olympic gymnastics title on Thursday.

Biles is heavily favored in the event which begins at 3 p.m. ET. Highlights will air during primetime coverage on NBC12.

Michael Phelps will aim to outswim Ryan Locate n the men's 200m IM final and win a record 22nd gold at 10 p.m. live on NBC12. A Phelps gold would make him the first swimmer to win the same individual event four times.

Other highlights on NBC12 during the day include:

  • Swimming - Phelps will swim in qualifying heats for the men’s 100m butterfly, while Katie Ledecky  swims heats in the women’s 800m freestyle and Missy Franklin competes in the women’s 200m backstroke heats.
  • Beach Volleyball - Two beach volleyball preliminaries from Copacabana beach feature U.S. tandems as Lauren Fendrick and Brooke Sweat face Russia (women) before Phil Dalhuasser and Nick Lucena take on Italy.

And primetime coverage on NBC12 includes:

  • Swimming –  Other swimming finals include the women’s 200m breast; the men’s 200m back, where Australian Mitch Larkin could snap a U.S. winning streak dating back to 1996; and the women’s 100m free, headlined by Aussie sisters Bronte and Cate Campbell.
