Family, RVA swim community prepares to cheer on Townley Haas in Rio

RIO DE JANEIRO (WWBT) - Henrico's Townley Haas competes in the 200 meter freestyle to highlight Sunday's Olympic action.

Haas placed 5th in the qualifiers to move on to the semifinals. He will swim live on NBC12 during the primetime coverage between 7 p.m. and midnight.

If Haas qualifies for the Gold Medal Final he will compete on Monday.

Several others with Richmond-ties will also compete on Sunday. Reid Priddy leads the US Men's Volleyball team as they take on Canada live on NBC12 between 4:15 and 6 p.m.

Plus, Casey Eichfeld will begin with the preliminary heats in the Men's Whitewater Canoe competition live on NBC12 between 3 p.m. and 4:15 p.m.

Also, Carmen Farmer will compete on the first ever US Olympic Women's Rugby Sevens team.

If the US makes the quarterfinals, the match will be broadcast live on CNBC between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Other action airing on NBC12 during daytime coverage includes the women's road race in cycling, where American Megan Gaurnier, coming off a bronze medal showing at last year's Worlds, could contend on Rio's mountainous course.

During primetime coverage on NBC12 world record-holder Katie Ledecky will swim in the Women's 400m free and Dana Vollmer swims in the women's 100m fly. Vollmer returns to the event a new mother after taking gold in London. Also in the pool, the U.S. looks to avenge a 2012 second-place finish to France in the men's 4x100m free relay.

Plus, the Women's team competition in gymnastics begins with three-time world all-around champion Simone Biles at the helm of the heavily favored U.S. squad.

Late night coverage on NBC12 includes the Men's team competition in gymnastics.
