Kidney stones are small, hard mineral deposits that form inside your kidneys. They have many causes including dehydration or poor diets and passing them can be quite painful.
As Dr. Michael Byrne of Retreat Doctors’ Hospital explains, kidney stones tend to develop during hot weather.
"In the hot weather, we're sweating more. We're losing water from our pores. And as a result, we have really concentrated urine, so that urine is perfect for forming stones."
Symptoms include severe pain in the side, back, or below the ribs, discolored urine or urinating in small amounts.
