Pair of shootings in Petersburg leaves one person seriously injured

PETERSBURG, VA (WWBT) -

Petersburg Bureau of Police are in the midst of a double shooting investigation after shootings in the city left one person seriously injured and a vehicle pierced by gunfire.

According to investigators, police were called to the 1000 block of High Street around 1:30 Friday. Once there, police found a man with a single gunshot wound to his upper torso.

That man was rushed to Southside Regional Medical Center in the city with serious injuries. The victim's current condition is unknown.

Witnesses to the shooting told police they heard a single gunshot that possibly came from a vehicle that was in the area at the time the man was shot. 

A short time later, another shooting was reported less than a half-mile away from the first shooting scene on High Street, near the intersection of North South Street and Washington Street.

In that incident, a vehicle was struck by gunfire, but no one was reported injured.

Police said they are investigating to determine if the shootings are related.
