BALTIMORE, MD (WWBT) - Baltimore Police said several people, including a seven-year-old girl, are safe and accounted for after being held hostage inside a fast food restaurant by an armed individual in the city's southwestern section.
That information was confirmed by Director of Media Relations for Baltimore Police T.J. Smith just before 5 p.m. Sunday.
In a report from the Baltimore, Maryland NBC affiliate, police said the suspect, who was armed with a gun, ran into a Burger King, where the hostages were being held against their will.
WBAL reports the person who was holding the hostages in the restaurant is a rape suspect who was spotted by police earlier Sunday morning, which prompted the suspect to flee, eventually crashing into another car and leaving that person with minor injuries.
The suspect then fled into the Burger King restaurant, which was occupied by several people at the time.
The unidentified suspect has been taken into police custody and all the hostages have been freed and are accounted for, according to Baltimore Police.
