JAMES CITY COUNTY, VA (WWBT) - A Tri-Cities woman and her nine-year-old daughter lost their lives after officials said their boat capsized during an outing on the York River.
According to officials with the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, 35-year-old Kimberly Marie Privette and her daughter died after their boat capsized after it began taking on water over the bow. The boat's operator tried to plane the boat, but the water shifted, causing the boat to capsize, trapping both Privette and her daughter underneath.
Game and Inland Fisheries said both victims were wearing life vests at the time of the tragic incident.
WAVY reports that Privette and her daughter were on a fishing outing with four other people when the boat capsized. Those four people who survived did not receive serious injury and are expected to recover.
