If you're a customer of the Central Virginia Waste Management Authority, there are some changes taking effect July 1 that will make recycling curbside and drop-off that much easier.
A slew of new items are now being allowed to be recycled through both curbside and drop-off programs. Those items include:
"CVWMA is always looking for cost effective ways for its member local governments to be able to implement programs or to enhance existing programs to make recycling easier in the region, to reduce the amount of waste going to local landfills, and to protect and conserve natural resources," Executive Director of the Central Virginia Waste Management Authority, Kim Hynes said.
"With these additional items being added to its programs, the Authority will be part of recycling programs nationwide that accept all plastic bottles and containers and the waxy cartons," Hynes continued.
These newly added items are an extension of the items that are already allowed to be recycled with CVWMA, including cardboard, mixed paper, steel and aluminum cans, plastic bottles, and glass bottles.
You are still asked to not recycle foam products and carryout packaging, plastic bags of any kind, food-contaminated items, and large plastic items.
Those with questions can reach out to CVWMA at 340-0900, the authority's website, or e-mail CVWMA at email@example.com.
