Petersburg City Council candidate faces embezzlement charge

PETERSBURG, VA (WWBT) - A Petersburg City Council candidate was arrested Tuesday and charged with one count of embezzlement tied to his employment at a Prince George limo company.

Michael Edwards is facing a felony charge since he's suspected of taking more than $200 from the company.

He turned himself in at Riverside Regional Jail.

On his page declaring himself a candidate for council, Edwards says "everyone must be accountable for their actions and maintain full transparency in our city government."

Edwards, 31, says he's a lifelong Petersburg resident and started attending council meetings when he was a teenager.
