RESTAURANT REPORT: Hand washing violations and food temperature problems

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - Hand washing violations and food not kept at proper temperatures top the list of problems inspectors found at three local restaurants.

Up first, Caffespresso at 1127 Gaskins Road in Henrico had 4 critical violations, one of which was a repeat from a previous inspection. The report says the hand washing compliance is poor and the inspector told them to monitor it.

Employees handled dirty dishes and used a cell phone and tablet, then returned to food prep without washing their hands. That violation and two others were corrected during the inspection.

Moving to Hanover, Maya Grill at 149 Junction Drive had 4 critical violations.

The inspector noted that the charcoal chicken was not kept hot enough in the warming unit. It was only 92 degrees when it should have been 135 to inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria. Since the chicken had only been there for an hour, it was moved to a cooler to be cooled.

Maya Grill was re-inspected the next week and earned a perfect score.

And Great Steak in the Southpark Mall in Colonial Heights had 5 critical violations, plus one non-critical. A gyro was not being kept cold enough and the cheese sauce was not being kept hot enough.

The report shows the gyro was moved to another fridge and another violation was corrected during the inspection.

We gave the Hall of Fame Award to Chick-fil-A at 7285 Battle Hill Drive in Hanover. The fast food chicken restaurant has aced seven out of nine health inspections over the last three years.
