RESTAURANT REPORT: One pizza restaurant had pests, another had a faulty fridge

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - There were repeat problems at a couple of Henrico restaurants on their last health inspections. One had drain flies and a few roaches, while the other had elevated temperatures in a fridge. But both restaurants have fixed the problems.

We begin at Ledo Pizza & Pasta at 4030 Gathering Place in Glen Allen. It had 4 critical violations, plus four non-critical on its last health inspection.

The report says there were numerous drain flies and a few live and dead roaches, plus mold build-up in the ice machine.

When the inspector returned 11 days later, the report shows Ledo still had one critical violation: the pests.

We spoke with the owner by phone, who said the pests came from a leaking fountain drink dispenser, but that they had pest control treat the facility. When the inspector came back again four days later, the pests were gone and Ledo earned a perfect score.

Chianti Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria at 1304 Gaskins Road in Henrico had four critical violations and one non-critical, including foods in a prep unit were not being kept cold enough because the door wouldn't close properly.

There was also a heavy build up of food residue on the slicer and can opener blade. The manager told us by phone that they threw out the food in the prep unit and bought a new unit.

They also trained staff to take apart and clean the slicer and can opener every night. He points out all violations were corrected right away.

We gave our Hall of Fame Award to Five Guys Burgers and Fries at 931 West Broad Street in Richmond.

We've given the award to several Five Guys locations for acing their health inspections. This one has earned perfect scores on every inspection for the last two years.
