We may not always agree on the reasons why our country or other countries make a decision to go to war, but we should all be in agreement that we can never forget to honor all of our fallen soldiers.
Let’s face it, we all appreciate the long weekend, the warm weather and the unofficial start to summer, but we have to remember that Memorial Day is about remembering and honoring those men and women who have paid the ultimate price so that we can live in a free and democratic society.
For many families, Memorial Day is also a day when they are reminded of a son, daughter, mother or father who didn’t come home from their tour of duty.
In addition to our fallen soldiers and service people, we must remember to also say thank you and pay homage to the families who lost a loved one in service to our country.
So as you gather over this weekend and particularly on Monday, when you gather to celebrate the holiday and all that we have in this country we call America, please take a moment, and be demonstrative, by honoring our fallen soldiers by name so that our young people, and all who are present, are reminded that freedom isn’t free.
