RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

A text message to iPhone users claiming their Apple ID is expiring is actually a scam, according to security experts.

Security expert Slawek Ligier of Barracuda Networks tells NBC Bay Area when users click the link, "they ask for your name, address, even your passport information."

Some iPhone users seem to be falling for the scam because it comes as a text to their iPhone and claims to be from Apple Support saying the iCloud or Apple ID need to be updated.

Experts say to ignore or delete the message and always be wary of text messages from senders you don't know.
