Chesterfield selects Goochland superintendent to lead school system

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - The Chesterfield School Board announced it has unanimously selected Goochland School Superintendent Dr. James Lane as the new head of Chesterfield Schools.

Dr. Lane has served as Superintendent of Goochland Schools since 2012 and was recently named a finalist for the 2017 Virginia Superintendent of the Year. His appointment will be voted on Tuesday night by the school board, which has already unanimously supported his selection.

Dr. Lane will take over on July 1, replacing Dr. Marcus Newsome, who is retiring after 10 years in the position.

"His visionary leadership has helped make Goochland a state leader in instructional technology that has engaged students in collaboration and creative thinking. The results, in terms of student achievement and national recognition, speak for themselves," said School Board Chair Dianne Smith. "We are excited to have Dr. Lane join a legacy of strong superintendents who have continued to take Chesterfield County Public Schools to the next level."
