This week’s deadly storms and tornadoes across Central Virginia were a harsh reminder of the power of Mother Nature and the potential deadly effects of extreme weather.
We truly mourn the loss of life that occurred in Appomattox and Waverly as the result of deadly tornadoes. The loss of homes and property damage was severe in Central Virginia, but the areas of Appomattox, Waverly and Tappahannock were particularly hit hard.
Although these times are difficult, this is when the citizens of Central Virginia are at their best. Many of you want to know how you can help financially and where you can volunteer.
The Red Cross is one of the major first responders and that is one place where you can make donations. There are several local initiatives, churches and organizations that are in place to directly help the many families in need and they could use your help. It is important during the disaster recovery period that you only give to organizations and initiatives that have been locally vetted.
