RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Police are searching for the driver responsible for a fatal hit and run in South Richmond.
Investigators say a man crossed Semmes Avenue, near Cowardin, where he was hit by a car.
Anthony Allen and his family drove by the scene just after the car hit the victim, and they say they tried to help. "All of a sudden, we came up and there was a gentleman laying in the street," Allen said. "My wife instantly got out, and when she got out, she went over to him and he was a little responsive. It looked like he had major trauma to his head."
Anthony's wife was still with the man on the street. She was there for the moment he stopped breathing, right when EMTs showed up. "To know that he was responsive, and then, the outcome… She's having a hard time with that right now," he said.
Officers were able to track down the car in the East End, but there was no sign of the driver.
Police have not yet identified the victim.
If you have any information that can help track down the suspect, detectives are urging you to call 780-1000.
