Comcast outage leaves some in Richmond-area without service

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A major Comcast outage is leaving many in the Richmond area without service on Presidents Day.

A live online outage map showed cable outages in a number of locations, including up and down the East Coast.

Comcast said the outage did not affect local channels, but national networks and premium cable services were out in several cities.

Several complained they couldn't get a number of their channels.

Others said they also weren't able to reach Comcast customer service by phone.

Comcast sent NBC12 the following statement:

"We're continuing to investigate what appears to be a temporary network interruption that impacted some of our services this morning.  Our engineers have been working on this and services are starting to be restored.  We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused our customers."

The outage comes as many are stuck home due to a winter weather system moving through Central Virginia and as VDOT is asking drivers to stay off the roads. Comcast has not said when service will be restored.
