26-year-old inmate dies in custody at Richmond City Justice Center

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

A 26-year-old inmate has died while in custody at Richmond City Justice Center.

Gregory Hill "suffered what medical staff believe to be a heart attack in his housing unit," according to Major Jerry Baldwin.

Medical staff and EMS responded, attempted lifesaving efforts and transported him to VCU Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

There is no suspicion of foul play, but there will be a full investigation which has already begun, according to Baldwin.

Gregory Hill was being held on felony charges of malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Hill was committed to custody January 6.

"Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the deceased during this time of grieving," said Sheriff C.T. Woody, Jr..
