VCU stumbles in second half, falls at Georgia Tech

ATLANTA, GA (WWBT) - Justin Tillman scored a career high 18 points and Melvin Johnson added 17 points, but VCU could not keep pace with Georgia Tech down the stretch in a 77-64 Rams loss on Tuesday night in Atlanta.

The two teams were tied at 27 at halftime and VCU would take a three point lead early in the second half, but Georgia Tech would go on a 14-2 run to to take a 45-36 lead with 13:07 remaining. After the Rams trimmed the lead to 49-48, the Yellow Jackets responded with a run of 13-1, slamming the door and sending VCU to its fourth loss of the season.

Marcus Georges-Hunt led Georgia Tech with 20 points.

The Yellow Jackets entered the game ranking third in the country in offensive rebounds, but the Rams out-dueled them in that category, 15-12, though Georgia Tech did win the overall rebounding battle, 41-36. VCU was hurt by a rough shooting night, as the Rams only connected on 32 percent of their shots.

VCU is back in action on Saturday as the Rams host No. 23 Cincinnati. Tip-off is set for 4:00pm.
