EMPORIA, VA (WWBT) - A man wanted for shooting an Emporia police officer is now behind bars and facing attempted capital murder charges, according to police.
One week after Emporia Police Officer William King was shot, US Marshals arrested Rakei Stokes in connection with the case. They found Stokes around 12:35 a.m. Sunday and brought him back to Emporia. He is now being held at the Southside Regional Jail without bond.
Police arrested Calvin Evans on Friday on a charge of conspiracy to commit capital murder in connection to Officer King's shooting. Officer King was responding to a homicide at the Smoove Operators nightclub and assisting in the arrest of Christopher Powell for the fatal shooting of George Cain III, when he was shot in the leg.
King was airlifted to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Powell has since been charged with the murder of Cain.
